Widney Manor Station - A Solihull & West Midlands Gem!

Widney Manor Station is on the Chiltern Mainline between Solihull and Dorridge, the last station before crossing the M42 motorway. It opened back in 1899.

In brief

Widney Manor Station is on Widney Lane in Solihull, between Solihull and Dorridge on the Chiltern Mainline. Originally opened by the Great Western Railway in 1899 on their mainline between London Paddington via Birmingham Snow Hill and Birkenhead Woodside (services passed through the station but did not stop). These days local services between Dorridge towards Birmingham Snow Hill and onto Kidderminster, Stourbridge Junction, Worcester Foregate Street (or Shrub Hill). Some Chiltern Railway services stop here from Leamington Spa or to Stratford-upon-Avon.

Widney Manor Station - details

There is a ticket office at Widney Manor open Monday's to Saturday's each week with staff.

There is a station car park on both sides with entrances to platforms 1 and 2, and a pedestrian footbridge.

Widney Manor mostly has local trains from Dorridge going towards Birmingham (Moor Street and Snow Hill) and onto Kidderminster, or Stourbridge Junction or Worcester (Foregate Street or Shrub Hill).

There is a footbridge here, but no lifts. You would have to walk down to Widney Lane between both car parks to access the other platforms by wheelchair or with pushchairs (might be possible to carry a pushchair up and down the steps).

The station is served by the no 5 bus on Widney Lane, then just a short walk up via the car park near the ticket office to platform 1.

The current ticket office and waiting room building was opened in 1989.

In the car park near the booking office are disabled car parking spots and a ramp, this is near the footbridge.

There is a ticket machine on platform 1. During Remembrance Sunday in November 2018 it was not working. These days you can also buy your ticket in the West Midlands Railway app.

There is also a permit to travel machine.

On Sunday's the service in both directions is hourly.
